Found a DEAL!

Hey everyone,

I just found a deal that I couldn't pass up. I got a set of Hawk HPS pads for $20 since they are on clearance from HPS.

I read reviews that they are a bit noisy, but that they had great stopping power.

Anyone got any feedback on them?

Funny thing is I work at autozone and bought the best CMAX pads, and am now going to have to return them. My store manager will be disappointed.

BTW if anyone is interested, there is still one auction up for these pads.

$20!! That is one heck of a price. I'm running Hawk HPS on my Corolla, one of the best decisions that I've made for the car. Once you get used to the high initial bite, you'll be amazed by more confident allaround braking performance.

Does tend to dust quite a bit more than other pads. Also tends to squeak when cold, but it can vary. Both of which I'd trade for the higher initial bite and overall brake feel. Dust and noise doesn't matter much if you plowed into the back of another vehicle.

I'd say these easily shaved more than a car length or two of stopping distance in my car. Just make sure to follow the bedding in procedure for the pads. Also, if you haven't already flushed out your brakes - now would be an excellent time to do so.

That's a steal indeed.

I run them too... great pads. They squeal like mad sometimes and at others pretty quiet.

I've noticed all the same things as fishexpo101 did.

If they only had these for the 7th gen Corolla. I would buy 10 sets and be set for life!

Now which rotors should I go with?

I was thinking of getting brembo blanks. I actually saw a set of 2 listed on ebay for $25. I was really tempted to buy it, but it seemed so low that I thought something must be wrong.

On amazon I can get brembo blanks for $36 a piece shipped.

Now I know there are a few people who like the EBC slotted rotors. Any suggestions on which are the best bang for the buck?

I'm currently running Brembo blanks (plain, vented rotor - also OEM on the car) + Hawk HPS = no problems whatsoever. Some like slottled or drilled rotors - more of a personally preference than anything else. Personally, for a daily driver - I'd stick with plain vented rotor + high performance pad - drilled and slotted rotors have a "whirring" noise when you slow, can get annoying at times.

Slotted brakes are better suited for a track, where you want to "clean" off the pad to maximize brake torque (pad dependant) and not conerned about pad wear. Even the Subaru and BMW club guys are running a plain vented rotor + performance pad - best bang for the buck with consistent performance on the track.
