Drooping Side View Mirror

I've recently come into possession of a 1998 Toyota Corolla. The thing is in fairly good condition, less than 85k miles on it. There is just one major thing that is bothering me; the passenger side view mirror will not stay in place. The side view mirrors are manually adjusted. If I push the mirror into the place I want it to be, it will stay there for a little while, but then it just droops and turns towards the car. If there is a way for me to fix it, that would be great. I want to make one thing clear; it is the mirror itself that is drooping, not the entire side view mirror assembly / housing. Thanks in advance for any advice.

as far as i know with power mirrors, the back has 3 adjusters it is popped into, maybe its possible one came out so its not holding its position? you could try taking apart the mirror assembly and taking a look yourself, its rather simple

its usually because over time if its always being moved the joints come loose causing it to droop or fall on its own. i have both sides for sale $25 shipped each(shipping cost is a bich) completely manual no interior control knob. black plastick color. doesnt have the dropping problem still pretty stiff

sorry white_trix-e, i talked to my parents and we already ordered a replacement window assembly. Thanks for the info iskate631, we decided to simply buy the new assembly as opposed to opening up the old one. When i take off the old one and replace the new one, i'll try and open up the old assembly and let you know what the deal is.

Just so i have this straight, in order to remove the mirror assembly, simply pry off that black triangle on the inside of the door, there will be three bolts, loosen them, the assembly will be off, put the new one on, tighten the bolts?

Thanks again!

Man, if you're going to replace the mirror, might as well go all the way and do the powered mirror upgrade...

But to each their own.

Anyways, yes.

1. Unscrew the screw holding the adjuster knob in place.
2. Remove the triangle cover.
3. Use a 10mm socket to remove the nuts holding the bolts of the mirror.
4. Reverse process for mounting the new mirror.
