I have a leak and i wanted to know how many of you guys have changed your catalytic converter with an aftermarket one and if you still have it or how long it lasts? I have an exhaust leak *don't know how the muffler guys missed it" I bought all new exhaust gaskets from toyota and i'm either going to put new gaskets on with the factory cat or put on the new one i bought. I bent my exhaust pipe a couple year back hitting the curb, 2 months ago i hit ice and it grounded out and i hear it pop off. Just wondering if you guys have aftermarket cat's and how it affect performance and if it will still not smell.
It's quiet and pretty much does the job fine for a lot cheaper than the OEM cat.
And then the CEL will come back on. Did for me. Luckily they have a lifetime warranty. Just a PITA

I never had the CEL problem prior to nor after I replaced my cat.
Maybe it's on the 7th gen? Dunno.
Yeah, I'm gonna get a scan tool and check out my O2 readings, because I'm starting to get frustrated. I've also read about 8th gens having issues with the ECU generating faulty P0420 codes. There was a TSB about it.
If you had no CEL, why did you replace your cat?

My cat started to rattle at low rpms, I thought it was the heat shield initially. But it turned out that it was inner structure and it started to fail. Replaced it promptly even though the CEL didn't come on.

Gotcha. I'm actually hoping it's the cat that's bad on my car, because if it's the ECU, I will not be having a fun time dealing with the Toyota dealer. Because there is no way I'm paying for a faulty computer that prevents my car from passing inspection.
