MAF sensor

Hey i noticed that my maf sensor's thermostat thingy thats on the side where you can see....i notice that one side is bright and shiny while the other side is rusty and dirty covered up.Will that affect anything?
btw how would you know when your maf sensor is dirty...clean it once in a while?

I clean mine every oil change, when I clean my K&N air filter.

yes, clean the maf. it can cause some problems down the line. if you use a pre oiled filter, like a k&n, then you should clean it about the same time you clean your filter. this is because the oil from the filter can get on the maf wire causing it to read incorrectly. however, if you run a dry filter, like the aem dryflo, then you dont need to clean the maf but once every few years (2-4) since it will pick up dirt at a lesser rate because of the oil free filter.

You think that's OCD, you should see my other car

But I just include it as a part of the oil change job. I do my own oil changes, so while the oil drains, I take out the K&N and clean it off. Then I clean the MAF, shake it dry, then reinstall it. Fill the oil and I'm good. While the K&N dries, I use a regular paper air filter for a day, then switch back to the K&N whenever it's convenient in the next day or two.

Does it has to be carb choke cleaner or it can be any cleaner like brake cleaner too for instance?

It's a sensor, I'd be using MAF Cleaner
