Canada Aftermarket Radio Help

I bought a new pioneer car deck to replace the OEM one in my 2002 corolla. Me and my buddy installed it yesterday. Everything works fine except for the radio. The FM radio works but the AM doesnt. It only works in some parts of the city. I called pioneer and they said to replace the antenna. Any suggestions on how to get my AM working again?

Thanks

That, unfortunately, happens quite a bit. An aftermarket headunit getting poorer AM reception than the OEM headunit. Options are to replace the headunit with one more sensitive, or use an aftermarket antenna, especially amplified ones (separate amp for AM and FM).

Exact same thing happened when I swapped the OEM Toyota (Fujitsu-10) for a Kenwood - AM reception was close to zero. Replaced it with a Sony and Alpine later - both were better, but not as good as the OEM. Eventually going to replace the pillar mounted antenna with an amplified "low profile puck" version - but haven't gotten around to it.

Let me know how it goes then i might just change the antenna. I still have more than 2 weeks before the 30 day return policy is over.
