There are currently no problems but am wondering if it'd be a good idea to change the thermostat and put in new coolant, especially since the temps here will be getting into the triple digits in a few months. How often should it be changed? Not sure if it has been done before on this car, as I bought it when it had 99k miles.

90k miles is when a lot of recommended maintenance is done. I believe a coolant flush is one of them, that's what I did last summer at about 90k+ miles. As for the thermostat, I personally think that if it's still working, it should be okay unless you've noticed problems with it.
