High Mileage Oil

So I know that my engine is burning oil and there's not much I can do about it but keep topping it off as it gets low. I am currently using full synthetic and it's getting too costly for my pocket so I'm thinking of just using high mileage oil. Does anyone know any good brands for high mileage oils? My car is a 99 corolla with only 80,000 miles.... so sad she drinks all the oil in a month.

If oil consumption is excessive, high mileage oil probably wont make any improvements.

I've tried high mileage oil in other cars and did not see a difference. If I had to add oil very frequently I'd just stick with regular cheap oil, or find the cause of the problem and possibly fix it.

I did not know that these cars had an oil consumption problem. Glad mine doesnt seem to be affected.

Opinions vary greatly, but I think it'd be hard to find a well known brand that wasn't "good." I, personally, use too much to make it worth buying anything other than the 5 quart jug of Q-state at Walmart for $10.

My Prizm burns a quart every 6-800 miles depending on how fast I drive.

I'd be looking into something more seriously as a solution instead of just dumping in more oil if it literally is burning that much oil in a month. My '99 with 101,500~ mi barely burns any oil.

Have seen reports of good results with Valvoline Maxlife motor oil on 1ZZ-FE that tend to use oil.

Also depends on how the oil is being use. Stuck piston rings are most likely, with the burn rate that you are seeing (1 quart every 600-800 miles), might get lucky with something like AutoRX or even seafoam.

Have you done a compression test / leak down test to see where you stand?

As mentioned above, additives will not fix the root issue, but they could extended the time you have to work with.

I have not done a compression test, but I've taken it to a mechanic several times and any small leaks he found has been fixed. Also with the amount of oil being consumed, there is no doubt in my mind that the problem is the stuck piston rings. I'll try valvoline max next time I change my oil.
