Mysterious rumbling from Front Driver side wheel well
I've been getting an intermittent rumbling from the driver side front wheel.
I can't seem to find out where it's coming from. At first, I thought it was the strut mount, since the sound seemed to be up high in the well. I replaced the strut mount since i had to replace the strut bellows anyway, but the sound is still there.
when im on the highway, there is no rumbling. When on a 35mph street, there it is..but intermittently.
Components i've checked that are OK: sway bar linkage, strut mount, strut. Yes, the wheel lug nuts are tight!
My suspicions:
-Ball Joint
-Loose CV shaft ( when replacing the strut, I tugged on the CV shaft, and
it had some lateral play, about an 1/8 of an inch. Is this normal?
-Wheel bearing, but there is no play in the wheel when jacked up.
Car is a 1998 Corolla LE with 104K
How can i verify which? Anyone?
