Exhaust is on

i got a muffler put on today and i must say i like how it looks on the car.

however there are two problems

1: i still have a exhaust leak by the downpipe/manifold connector
2: damn! this thing is loud. it drones at low rpm but at crusing speed and idle its quiet. (perfect) opinions/suggestions on exhaust.

From what I can see in the photo it looks good and suits well . Nice to see that you didn't go for a 'canon' or anything ridiculous like that. Just smear some mani-seal between the manifold and downpipe and your leak should disappear

I originally was gonna do the jdm export thing I've seen on a few corollas (dual exhaust) but I decided against it. One of these is good I think I'd could shatter glass with two.

Looks good, kinda like one of the mufflers i have sitting in my basement that i bought and never used.

what kind of piping and resonator did you have installed?

also on one of my last talks to magnaflow, they recommended an oval or "mini muffler" style resonator to help with droning and interior resonance. stay away from the cherry bomb style resonators as they will not dampen interior resonance as much.

I still have stock cat and resonator. Piping is 2.25" from axle to the muffler. I don't mind the drone that much cuz I do a ton of highway driving. I may buy another resonator and get it put in.

i do alot of highway driving as well, but the drone does get old after a while. here recently ive enjoyed driving my miata because its all stock and almost silent compared to the corolla.

the stock resonator is only good at killing interior resonance when used with the oem muffler. to kill resonance with an aftermarket exhaust you need to go with a larger resonator. something like this from magnaflow or one of these from hushpower. ive seen both used as resonators and both worked extremely well and will not obstruct flow at all.

sounds good. the smoke does not look that bad. 172+k miles on the 1zz and all your getting is that little puff? its good. i would recommend going to a bit heavier weight oil and see if it stops some of the smoke on start up.
