Corolla in sun does not start.

Hey!
How come my Corolla -99 will not start if it has been exposed to sunshine for a couple of hours. Not until I push the car to some shadow place.
Wondering Agne.

If it's got a "twilight sentinel" eye on the dashboard, try covering that up. Maybe it's related to that in some bizarre way.

Does it even crank, or does it just click a lot? We need more specifics on that aspect.

Also, be sure your battery cables are on good and tight and are free of corrosion.

The headlights turns on automatically when the motor runs (according to swedish law), so I don´t think the problem is there. And thanks for your Corolla Vampire. It made my day!

well there is a common issue with the daytime running lamp circuit that causes engine problems (sounds strange). heres what happens...

the engine shares a ground with the DRL module, the ground is located near the brake pedal on the bulkhead. the ground gets burned due to too many things trying to ground at one spot, so ground starts getting pulled through the module which burns a module circuit and causes the daytime running lights or headlights being turned on to make the engine not run because ground is being pulled through the module and through the headlight bulbs.

set the parking brake, does it start?

After a lot of dictionary work I think I understand your comment. Thank you!
I will try to cover up the "sentinel". The starter motor does work fine, but the engine does not run. I have tried startergas(?) without any effect. And the sparkplugs are dry after trying to start.

I'd check the starter again. Mine looked good and tested good but in the end had some weak "brushes" that would react to the heat/hot weather.

Anyhow, why aren't you driving a Volvo ?

My first car was a 1968 Volvo station wagon just like this one: The "Love Wagon"... great date car...

But in the problem description she says that:

The starter motor does work fine, but the engine does not run.
so bad starter brushes is not likely.

The "startergas" she mentioned is most likely "starting fluid" in a spray can.

Thank you for info. The weather has been cloudy lately so I can not provoce the problem yet. And I still don not know if it is the heat or the light that causes it. I will look for the DRL module and see what that can give.
"Starting fluid" sounds to be the right way to put it. You learn a lot in forums.

As the starter works fine in shadow and with the same sound, I don´t think the problem is there. Yes I have owned a couple of Volvos. One PV, two Amazons ("Ama") and one 145. They are heavy and quite expensive cars.
You can still see "Amas" on the roads, especially in northern Sweden.

does the engine temperature make any difference?

i remember hearing that low fuel pressure can cause air locks in the fuel line that makes it hard to start the engine.

Perhaps that could be the problem. But shouldn´t it start when I use "starting fluid" from a spray can?

Thanks for help and I will check the gaspump.

Your engine needs air, gasoline, and a spark.

Starting fluid will act like the gasoline, to a point. If you can't tell that it's doing ANYTHING using it, it's probably the ignition system (the air should be getting to the car whether it's sunny and warm or dark and cold).
