VSV's - what a bunch of B/S
Despite hours of searching, I have been unable to answer this question:
Are Toyota VSV's that have the same external configuration, I.E., number of ports, wires and orientation, but different part numbers, interchangeable?
I completely dismantled and repaired the Canister Evap VSV on my 2000 Corolla with 57,000 original miles. The teenie, tiny steel valve thingy that slides back and forth to open and close the two ports had rusted. The rust expanded against the plastic valve body and the thingy was stuck. Removed the rust, put it back together and no more 0446. And the dealers say, "You need a new canister.".
Other than the fact that these VSV's all appear to be CRAP, I have VSV's on my 91 Tercel (104,000 miles), and my 94 Corolla (27,000 miles) that look identical to the ones on my 2000. The part numbers are different, but they are externally, exactly the same thing.
For that matter, I've recently seen Mazda and Suzuki VSV's that are identical in appearance to the one's on my Toyotas.
I guess I'm well beyond cynical after chasing VSV CEL Codes for two months, but it seems to me that these 50 cent pieces of s--t are costing owners lots of money, when, if they are interchangeable with other Toyotas, and even other manufacturers, a whole new world has opened up at the junk yard.
Are they interchangeable?
