01 CE here....121K,regular maintenance.Started yesterday and BOOM Knocking like crazy.Full of oil,doesn't matter what RPM,

DAMMIT!!! now what????

Knocking as in rod knock or knocking as it VVTi valvetrain noise? I take it the BOOM was in reference to the sudden onset of this knocking, and not what happened immediately before the knocking was heard.

Noise get any better or worse if the engine was given time to cool down?

naaah,I'm pretty sure 'tis a wee rod reachin' for the outside air.....Well,at least I kn ow how I will be spending my next few weekends....Luckily I have an old Mercedes diesel that won't let me down.
