Need help SOS ! 99 corolla need new tires what to buy?

I need to change all 4 of my tires on my 1999 corolla le but i am an absolute noob in cars. I don't even know where to start when looking for tires...what should i look for...deals...prices...i don't even know what are good prices and what are not since there are so many name brands out there...

i'm looking at these yokohama avid touring-s 185/65R14 for $200 for all 4 tires. is that good?

195/60/14 Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position.

Great tires in the wet, dry and can still handle a little light snow.

What tires to get would depend on a number of factors. What is your budget, what driving conditions do you see, what characteristic is high on your list - long life, smooth ride, wet weather traction, light snow traction, etc.?

Check www.tirerack.com - enter information on your car, preferred tire size (optional) and go from there. Tons of reviews on many tires - well laid out survey and comparison matrix so you can get lots of information at once.

Also provides a good price point to compare to other sites and local tire shops.

Please... this is a 99 'rolla not a Ferrari or off road truck. Go to whatever discount store you got around and look at what All-weather tire they have on sale. No need to waste your money on fancy names. Trust me, been there done that.....

That said, anything under 200 bucks installed is decent.

the Avid H4S is a good tire for the Corolla, great wet/dry and does well in snow. about $50-$60 each is the usual price so with mounting/balance you're around 250-300 out the door which is a fair price for a good tire. 500 tread wear and they last for a long time, easy 50k mile tire with correct inflation and rotations.

FYI, all tires sold in the US are marked with 3 bits of info.

traction, treadwear, and temperature resistance

The treadwear rating starts at 100 and goes up.

This is a good way to compare tires.

A rating of 150 is on a junk tire, Michelin tires might have ratings of 500 or 600.

However I used cheap Douglas tires on Ford Escorts and on an S-10 pickup truck for years and typically got 60k miles. But when I installed the same model tire on an Olds 88 I got 30k. I assume the difference is with the vehicle weight.

All of that said I usually buy lower priced tires at Wal-mart.

also be sure to check the date they were made on and if they're more than 2-3 years old avoid them, rule is that after 6 years of driving or sitting tires are to be discarded because the compounds that bind the layers degrade and they can literally come apart.

strongly agree! I have them on my other set of rims and have nothing but good things to say about them. Much better than the tires on my Konigs.

Thumbs up re tires

i work in a car dealership and almost everyone recomends Toyo tires. I currently have 17 inch wheels on my Corolla and have Nankang tires they r not very cheap tho they r not expensive and i just love the wet and dry traction my car have now with those tires even making turns and braking i feel the car much better
