jacking up an 02

I am starting to change my own oil and do my own maintenance. I searched around but i couldn't find any solid advice on how to safely jack up an 02 corolla.

where are the jacking points? where is the point in the front i can use a floor jack on?

your using a single point floor jack i'm assuming, furtermore i'm going to assume you have jackstands to put your car on once its jacked up. anyways, under the car there should be a cross-member underneath the engine, at the front of the car it makes a T. at that T is where you can lift from safely. but for changing your oil i'd go with some ramps, its easier, quicker, and safer (provided you have good ramps and some wheel chocks: you can use a brick, a rock, a piece of 4X4 wood, etc for a chock)

lift at that bulge (the rusty one)
and for heavens sake, use stands, i've heard to many horror stories of jacks failing with the results being smoosh-tacular

I agree with the jack stands, but i haven't been able to find any stable part of the frame or something that will definately hold to put the jack stands on...I use ramps now anyway but anyone who uses jack stands where do you "secure" them for better lack of words

I secure my jack stands on the tabs for the scissor jack, works fine for me so long as the wheels are chocked on both sides and e-brake on if lifting the front

Under the rocker panels, just aft of the front wheels and just forward of the rear wheels are flat surfaces on the floor pan about 4" by 4". Check your owner's manual and you can see where to place them. I had mine up for two weeks and never had a problem.

Yes, as the Salty Dog says, place the jack stands under the frame rails

I prefer to use ramps for things that dont require removal of tires.

My theory is if you buy a jack and stands first, you can use them for everything. If you buy ramps, you're going to have to buy a jack at some point to do brakes, etc. If the cost of the ramps will pay off in terms of convenience for you, then by all means get the ramps too.

I say buy Jack + jack stands. Luckily for me I got my ramps like 25% off from a Auto store closing down.

Jack and stand = oil changes, wheel rotation/mounting, and basically anything mechanical wise.

Ramps = easier access to add suspension bits like sway bars.
