Water in the back seat?

Hello,

I have a 99' Corolla that collects water on the floor of the passenger side back seat. It's been raining for a couple of days and there's a standing pool of water. Doesn't look like it's coming in from the window as nothing else is wet back there, only the floor. The Driver side is fine too. Any ideas where to start looking for the problem?

Thanks!
Mike

Mike,
You may want to take a look at your rubber seal around the back door. Also yank your back seat out and remove the door trim plate. After doing that you should be able to lift the carpet up and see if you have a rust hole or a rubber seal with in the floor board broke or roughted out. I know theres a couple of em right under the seat, thats where I ran my batt cables to the trunk. Hope this helps.

Think Scoutsout is on the money, however, I would also check the trunk to see if there is any water there as well. If there is any sign of water in the trunk as well then it may be from the back light. I had that same problem with two AE92s and i tracked the leak down to the back light in both cases.

With the first one I had to change the passenger side back light because of an electrical short, and didn't seal it properly when installing the new one. the result was slight dampness in the trunk but a pool of water on the floor by the back seat. Car was parked on a slope facing down.

With the second car someone ran into the back of my car in the parking lot cracking the back light. It was still intact so I thought nothing of it until I got into the car to go to work after a weekend of very heavy rain. Both the trunk and the floor of the back passenger seat were soaked.

Hope you find the problem

also if you have a sunroof check to see if the rain spouts are clear of dirt build up, and to see if the tubes are headed down out the car and not draining inside . most sunroofs have 4 drains spouts,( how can rain get in with the sunroof closed) it does, the seal hold enough water out but you would always have water that leaks in.if you dont have a sunroof SCOUTSOUT AND CHINSAN are in the right direction.

you can also go into a automatice car wash and hop into the back and check wheres its coming from.

I've got the same problem

Our car has the same problem. Every time it rains the floor on the right rear passenger's side fills with water. There is a light water stain on the headliner near the rear pillar, and water clearly runs down inside the pillar. We are certain this water is coming from the drain tube that is supposed to drain water from the skylight gutter through the rear pillar and down to the ground via the trunk... Can anyone tell me how to gain access to this tube to see if it has pulled off or if the hole is clogged with dirt and causing the gutter to overflow??? Please help us if you can.

2000 corolla here. What I see appears be a 1" gap at the bottom center of the rear window seal. The seals have fallen way 6" on both sides of that gap. Would assume a fastening clip has fallen off, and some kind of glue/sealer is required. Surely water would penetrate there, maybe ending up in the back seat. I have not seen water internally, maybe just lucky so far.
