Phillips Xtreme Halogen VS Hids.

May have been asked before but, i certainly couldnt find it. I realized i need to upgrade my lighting situation on my 1998 Prizm after last night when i side swiped a deer that could have been easily avoided with a good set of lights.

I tried installing a set of Ebay hids 9003 type in my Prizm but they wouldnt turn on, They would flicker on for a second and shut off. That was it. Im assuming its just the cheap ebay lights, or that i need to disable my drl. I had no problems with hids in my tahoe from ebay.

I dont mind a little work to get myself a good pair of lights. I just need guidance and i wont bother you guys again.

I figured the Phillips extreme were as simple as it gets install wise but from what i read and saw the vision is far superior from hids compared to phillips xtreme.

Any help would be much appreciated. Not looking to start a flame war. And NO im not changing my stock housings. Properly aimed stock housings are just fine with hids.

Also, can someone point me to the link for the disable DRL?

here is the link for the drl disable i used. it works great and it keeps the twilight feature.
How to disable DRL for 2002 corolla?

and second, stay away from egay HID kits. order a ddmtuning kit. much better quality and cheaper with a full lifetime warranty.

Thanks alot for the quick and helpful response. I will order some hids from ddm once i get some extra cash. But my other question is DDM site shows two sets of H4'S. One with high and low beam for an extra 20? Or the regular h4's. Im assuming the redular h4 are just hids in the low setting and not in the high.

Ill have to do some extra inspecting on the drl disable. im not 100% on the link you listed but im sure ill figure it out . Thanks alot again.

i have the regular h4. it is low beam only. a buddy of mine just installed his high/low h4 kit in his altima. it is much nicer, and i wish i would have gone for that, but since im now swapping to a 01-02 front end i can just use the 9006 lamps with my h4 ballasts. then i only have to worry about the high beams.

No, they're not. The reflectors are based on capturing the light from the single hotspot in the center of the filament, not from the two hotspots formed at the electrodes in an HID capsule (with one hotspot being behind the focal point, the other being forward of it, when dealing with reflectors designed for an axial filament, such as designed for 9003, 9006, and 9005 bulbs). There is no way to aim them properly due to this.

For transverse filament bulbs, it can get worse because the hot spots are to the left and right of the center.

Again, there's no way to adjust for that.
