Misfire Issue

My 98 corolla has this hiccup when the RPM is below 3000. It fails to put out power below this range and when it goes past 3k rpm the issue fades away and power is normal. The check engine light started flashing and then stayed lit. I took the car and had the code read by Autozone. It said cylinder 2 misfire. The wires and plugs were replaced, and the only thing that Im thinking is coil pack or injectors...remember that I have power above 3k but constant misfire below 3k..

What could it be? I want to fix this myself but cant afford to buy a whole bunch of parts. Where should I start?

I would check the resistance of the coilpack with an OHM meter. I can't remember what the resistance is, but it is stated in your nifty Haynes manual. I would say that it is your coilpack. If you have just replaced your plugs and wires.

Also Have you pulled your number 2 wire to see if the porcelain on the plug is broke. Sometimes that can cause a missfire because its bouncing around and can't get a good enough spark. I hope this info helped.

When I had this issue, I swapped cyl2 coil pack with cyl3 coil pack so see if the check engine code moved cylinders. (Be careful to keep the right firing order.)

When that doesn't work, Swap injector 2 with injector 3. See if the code moves cylinders.

When that doesn't work, do a compression test on Cylinder 2. If your car is like mine, you'll find no compression and a burnt out valve. Pray its not that.
