seat belt light/sensor question 98 corolla

My seat belt light was flashing for a while, didn't bother me - but I finally asked toyota's service who replaced the buckle part only of the driver's belt. Now the light doesn't come on at all - seat belt on or off. I had someone hit the front bumper and left fender a while back, didn't know if that would have just knocked something out of place. My question is does this affect the airbag? Will the airbag go off if needed? Thanks!

Strange - the seat belt light is supposed to blink. And it's even more strange that Toyota's service (I'm guessing a dealer) replaced the buckle to fix it; they of all people should know the sensor isn't in the buckle until 2001...

This light has nothing to do with airbag system. So unless your airbag light is lit or blinking beyond the first few seconds after you turn the key, you should be covered.

Thanks!
Yes it was the dealer - figured that would be the better place for something like this - I usually take the car to another garage for usual maintenance. Now I know to check here first! The whole situation was crazy. They tried to tell me the tires were unbalanced and needed to be rotated because "one was slightly smaller" (uhm, no). And I knew it was just my front brakes just needed to be resurfaced (and was done elsewhere). Not going back!
