I am wanting to replace my Rolla's original 10 year old speakers and put some news ones in.
So far I have just been looking at the rear ones... to lift up the rear speaker covers it looks like I need to remove the "back dashboard". I can not get the child restraints loose to life the dash up and access the speakers.
Any advice?

I dont know how to help you on the issue because the guy at Best Buy put them in for me. I just remember him laying in the trunk and doing all the work on them. Im just curious to know, what size speakers do you plan on putting in? 6.5"? or trying to get 6x9s in there?

You don't have to take out that back dash where the speakers sit they simply just come out after the covers are popped off and some screws are taken out. I put 6x9's up there, but it requires some cutting of the sheet metal underneath that dash lid. It's not easy but with a little patience it came out nice. I believe its either 6 1/2 or 6 3/4 that work fine with simple replacements.
any rattles or annoying vibrations from the bigger speakers in a place not made to fit them? I think Im going to upgrade to 6x9s in the future if it really isnt that hard to do. Right now, I have some 6.5" Pioneers all around but want larger sized speakers for the rear.

Removing the speaker covers is a bad idea, because they'll rattle.

Thanks to all. My speakers sound really bad after 10 years but I really don't want to spend $100+ to replace them when I could do it for 1/4 that much.
I've got the hard part done for the rear speakers - why in the heck do they make the covers so hard to get off??? I ended up prying them off. Tomorrow I just have to get the new Pioneer 6.5's wired in.
I don't want to mess up my door panels (I also need to save money) so I'll probably leave the fronts alone and just adjust the fade to all/ mostly rear.
ALSO, does anyone know if a stock Toyota radio w/ cd player would fit in the same size slot as a stock radio w/ only tape player?? (I want to replace my stock radio that only has a tape player) I emailed some guy selling a stock w/ cd player and he said it wouldn't fit??

Better off getting a new radio. Reuse the metal brackets inside and wire harness. You should replace the fronts also. You mostly sit in the front. Get a set of components in the front. Also use the corner plastic as tweeter mounting spots.
