Loud Noise from transmission
So I have a high mileage 2001 corolla, 300, 000 km.
Recently there has been a very loud noise coming from the transmission area which increases with speed. While coasting down a hill i turned the engine off and put it in neutral, and to me it feels like something is wrong inside the transmission or differential. It sound like a a loud electric motor winding up.
Its a 3 speed auto transmission, and it does shift. Also when jacking up the car and starting the engine and letting the wheels free spin in the air, only the right wheel turns. Left wheel doesn't at all and when trying to move it by hand it does not rotate nearly as freely as the right wheel. While driving the car it feels like there is considerable amount of drag on it, as it does not accelerate as quickly anymore.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
