Fuel Injection Cleaning

Hi,
I was at the service center this morning for an oil change. The guy who did the service recommended me the Fuel Injection Cleaning. He told me that when the car is at idle he could notice some changes. He quoted me $90 to do the Fuel Injection Cleaning.

I too notice slight pick up and mileage problems of late. This may be the reason. It's done 106K miles and I bought it from another guy when it was at 75K miles. I've never done fuel injection cleaning in the past 3 years(31K miles). I've never had my check engine light come on or any problems until now. I always fuel at Costco.

My questions are:-
1. How important and safe is doing the Fuel Injection Cleaning for my car?
2. Is $90 okay quote in a city in Southern California at Midas?
3. Will the $6 additives do the job for me?
4. Do I have to check with the dealer for pricing?

Thanks a lot,
M

I would start with the FI cleaning and see if that improves MPG and sluggishness problems. The BG 44K cleaner that is put in the gas tank is supposed to work very well. I am not sure if there are great benefits to using the cleaner that is sucked thru the intake via a vacuum hose. I'd be more leaning to go with the BG stuff first (cheaper and has good feedback).

You can also remove and clean them( injectors). Its not hard and you can use concentrated cleaner right where you need. It is alot more work than an additive though, but it works better if they are really dirty.

I just had my injectors cleaned at the dealership for $110. They took them out of the car and cleaned them that way. Runs much better now.
