01-02 1.8 1zzfe same as 04-08 1zzfe 1.8?

Hi folks!! I am a new player and seek wisdom. I have a 2001 1.8 liter 1ZZFE in a corrola that bought the farm I have a scoop on a 2004 1ZZFE1.8 liter with low miles. I was told they are not quite interchangeable but can be if you change intake and exhauset manifolds and I think a motor mount. Anyone know for sure?? I am well qualified to do these swaps but not sure if it is true. Any help would be very appreciated.

intake is different but you may want to use it. does give more power/ bit better fuel economy. exhaust manifold you'll have to change. use your motor mounts.

For anyone interested - there is a great post about "piston oil holes" by sam333. That is exactly the reason I tore my engine down and found exactly the same situation with my my oil rings. An engine builder I know said these motors were known for this problem. Was going to deglaze the cylinders and install new rings, but found a couple of bearings out to lunch too and crank was scrap. That made it too expensive for rebuild.

If anyone has oil loss issue it is most likely stuck oil rings in the pistons. Catch it early and it is a matter of deglazing and new rings. Let it go like I did and keep adding oil and evantually more damage is done and you end up buying a new engine. Just thought I would offer that for anyoe who is interested.
