Is this worth the effort to fix?

Been a long while since I posted on Toyota nation, never in the corolla forum though so I'll start with a hello!

I recently came across this 1999 corolla while at a house looking to buy something else, asked offhand what was being done with it and was told it could be mine for 500, maybe less.. It supposedly has only 77k on it and was purchased from our local toyota dealership which means its still under warantee ..whatever good that does me.

I have no idea whats up with the cutting thing.. when the car was wrecked the fire department must have felt personally wronged by this car or something so they used a chop saw to cut the hood open and cut both battery cables as you can see in the pictures. My question though concerns the radiator support, Ive searched pretty hard and found many a thread covering pulling them back into place but I have a feeling it may take more than that for this one. Is it a bolt in part or do I have a lot of spot welds to drill out? The replacements on ebay though not ideal seem decently cheap.

The second issue is the interior, I cant say much more than what the pictures show. For those of you out there who do detailing or are familiar with the process, is there any hope for this car being cleanable?

and lastly, should the mileage be correct and everything mechanically on the car is fine is this even worth pursuing? It seems like a nice candidate for an upgraded front end..or should I just walk away now while I can?

as for the interior it perfetly cleanable. I have cleaned much worse. toe nails blood afterbirth puke. will the detilers be happy about it no. but it is definatly do able. give it like a once over vacuuming and clean up some of the stuff better and they can focus on the other stuff better. my .02 cents

Storage box full of cigarette butt.
Front end damage
Slush box
No cruise
Odd hood damage, yet relatively intact bumper cover?

Looks to me like some half-assed repair was attempted on it. Radiator support is still bent and needs to be fixed. Frame needs to be checked for upset. Could be a thousands of dollars repair job.

Personally I wouldn't touch this car.

Just ran a carfax and everything checks out, its a 2 owner car and the mileage is correct. I dont know anything about repairs being made, it certainly didnt look like it nor did the owners seem like they knew much if anything about vehicles. I plan on going over tomorrow and looking it over a bit more, I was worried about reconnecting the power with the airbags not being deployed but have done a bit of reading on that not being an issue. I guess more info on the car and accident might help you guys out, the car was bought for a girl in her late teens I'd say, she was tailgating and got short stopped by a Lexus SUV of some sort and the car slid under the rear end doing under 20mph . She told me the fire department used a chop saw to cut the hood off the latch since it would not come undone to disable the battery for fear of the airbags deploying. She has a Camry now and the cars been sitting for about 3 weeks. The pictures dont make it clear but the radiator/support never actually managed to touch the engine, theres still a good inch to two inches between the fans and the intake pipes, the fenders did not move, the door gaps all look correct and even, doors open and shut as they should.

Agreed, Ive fixed worse though :P there should be a thread on here somewhere of my 150$ Toyota pickup I cleaned up. On a side note I stumbled across pictures of your car earlier and was really impressed, I had intended to just flip this one if it was feasible but your car showed me they actually can look sporty, now I'm not sure if I want to flip it or just keep it and make it pretty again haha

150$ Project.

I ended up getting 1200 out of it so I did pretty well imo, its funny even now I kinda wish I didn't sell it. Still have the black Toyota but that blue one was a champ.

Thanks, If I hadn't gotten the black one I probably would've kept going at it till everything was right. Thats why I ended up putting a bench seat back in and not bothering with carpet. Today Im going to go and see if the corolla runs though, I'll be sure to let you guys know.

I agree. The last oil change was probably done about the same time as the interior was last cleaned.
