Transmission plug shape - 98 to 02.

So I picked up a used transmission from a 02 corolla (see earlier post about transaxle bearing)
I noticed the plug next to the gear selector is different shape. Also the code is different, one is 1A400 the other 1A640.
Can I just solder the wires together or there is more to it?

Trapezoid or rounded rectangular? Is there another 3-wire receptacle for another plug to go in? Gear selector is in the front. Look in its rear where one of the mounts is supposed to go. Is there holes for 2 or 3 bolts?

I am trying to find out of you bought the 3-speed auto by mistake.

It's at the shop now so I can't really tell. I asked for 4 speed.
I remember this:
one was rectangular and long
and the other much wider, square like.
I checked other two plugs and they were the same shape.

Clearly the tags said different numbers. 1A400 and 1A640.

4spd and 4spd with o/d is the difference. sounds like you had one and got the other by mistake.

There is only three transmissions ever offered for this gen Corolla: 3spd A131L, 4spd A245E w/ overdrive, and 5spd C59.

I had a second look at it.

My car (1998) has a plug that's narrow and rectangular, transmission code A1400

The transmission (2002) I got has a trapezoid square like plug - code A1640

... with ten positions for wires, and another black plug with 3 wires?

I'm pretty sure you got the wrong transmission then.

I thought so too.
In any case, I had it exchanged at the scap yard today. (not the easiest people to deal with)
This time I made sure everything matched. It says it's from a 99 corolla. There was no year on the other one just the VIN number.

I believe there is a VIN number written on the new one, so I can check it out at the MTO and find out what the milage is.

Thanks guys
I'm starting to like this forum.
