Engine and Top Speed Question

Hi All,
I'm wondering why if our Rollas have a VVT-I engine and 110 MPH as top speed. The Matrix 2004 have the same engine but has 140 MPH as top speed? Also when both have around the same HP and Torque and the Matrix is heavyer. What is the diference ? And why the matrix can go faster?

Thanks in advance.

The Matrix does not have a 140mph top speed. Not even close.

According to Car and Driver's road test archive stats, even the XRS topped out less than that.

its called a top speed govenor. it is built into the ecu. when the ecu sees the speed it at the predetermined limit, it will cut the fuel injectors and ignition untill the mph drops. think of it as a revlimiter, it is the same principal but its main purpose is to keep idiots from driving 140+mph everywhere putting peoples lives at risk.

second, the top speed of the 8th gen corolla's is around 130mph for 5spds. well mine is less but thats for other reasons. the 9th gen have the EXACT same limiter. the difference you are seeing is just the gauge cluster.

140mph in a Matrix would require substantially more power than a stock 1ZZ produces....unless there is a 70mph tailwind.
