Axle to Trans Seal?

I'm almost done with my 3 to 4 speed swap, but I have a problem. I was about to put the drivers side axle in and the little spring on the inside of the seal that the axle goes through popped out. Do I need this spring? How do I pull the seal?

Yes you need the spring , when that seal leaks its a nasty ,smelly mess, that wont go away until you pull the axle again and replace it.

If the spring isnt broken or stretched out, you can just replace it in the seal.

Its not expensive or hard to replace( like any other seal of that type).
Just be very careful not to scratch the seal bore when you pull it out.

The seal has a metal outer ring( to make it ridgid) coverd with rubber so it seals. If you just pull at the center of the seal it will rip out.You need to lever it out ( I use a seal puller).

DONT scratch the bore the seal sits in or you will have a bad leak!
