Unhappy Bad smell thru heater vents(non ac)

I have a 1999 4e-fe(e11 1.3) and have had a horrible old car, musty smell comming thru my heater vents for the last few months, the car has done 50k,and is only used once a week.its non air con and ive checked the coolant level which is fine and cleaned out the outside intakes and there dosnt appear to be any leaks anywhere also the the car dosnt steam up when the heater is on.has anybody experienced the same problem,or have a solution?
Thanks all for reading.

Have a mouse nest in there somewhere ? Do you hear any rattling or strange noises when you turn the fan on? You specifically say musty smell, but do you smell any exhaust smells in the mix?

Bad smell thru heater

Once you have located the source of the bad smell, you might want to try a product made by BG called Frigi-Fresh. I know you said that this car does not have an ac, but this product could be sprayed into your output ducts, and help remove/cover any bad smell from anyplace.

P.S. Just noticed that you are in the UK and it might not be available at your dealership or service center. It works very well to remove a mold smell.

It might be from water seeping through. Check your drainage holes for any clogged spots this could cause water to overflow and into your car.
