Canada the plastic shroud under my toyota

I've got a 99 corolla 1.8, after doing oil changes and having to work my way around that plastic shroud I was thinking is it a good idea to remove it, I can see the bolts that hold it up, but before I do that is there any rear purpose for it. Its plastic so its not a skid plate and it has openings, that lead me to believe its not there to direct air flow. Has anyone tried to remove theirs yet, if so how difficult is it?

I wouldn't suggest removing it. It's purpose is to help protect the engine from rocks, water, dust etc. It also plays a role in the aerodynamics, as the air can gush past without causing too much resistance/drag, which helps with fuel economy. It's easy to remove when the time comes to change your oil, as it should just be held in by a series of bolts, but I'd highly recommend putting it back on afterwards

+1 to what Kiwi-Corolla says. It's held on by 6 10-mm bolts/screws--easy to get on and off.

Leave it, not saving weight and your not making any improvements so might as well keep that engine clean
