8th gen Transmission 9th gen

I am wondering if a manual transmission from an 8th gen corolla would fit on a 9th gen manual corolla. i have a 2004 corolla sport manual, and the transmission is blown up, and i have a spare 8th gen manual trans. Would it fit?

Transmission wise, 8th gen should be the same as a 9th gen, but your 94 would be a 7th gen. Then again, so many things can interchange between 7th and 8th gens, I would not be surprised if they are direct swaps. Not certain; the way just be tried.

I have a 98 Corolla with a 2004 1zzfe VVTi and 5 speed from a 99. I know that the engine and transmission bolt up, but I don't know about the driver's side and front engine mount. My guess is that it should work.

But keep in mind that the 8th gen 5 speed have a slightly longer gear ratio than the 9th gen. So with a 8th gen 5 speed you will be in a lower RPM at the same speed. The trade-off is that the 9th gen 5 speed gives you better acceleration. If you really want acceleration at the expense of gas mileage then go with a 5 speed from a Celica or MR2 Spyder.

Thats cool, did you do the swap yourself? do you have pics of the engine bay you could post here?

i thought those models had drive by wire throttles not cable... correct me if im wrong....
how does the corolla run now? more power? what are you doing with the old non vvti engine? or is it broken..?
I would imagine you would have had to swap the entire engine harness with the new engine because your car didnt come with VVTI and that engine you now have in there has VVTI. What did you do?

It happened with 2005MY, so yeah 2004 is the best year. My bet is the entire engine wire and ECU had to be swapped out, and some repinning of the harness to interface with the rest of the car.

im still wondering how you got the engine to work in your 98 corolla, what all did you have to do? change the harness and computer? you said you have a 98 transmission and an 04 engine? and they bolted up and fit in your engine bays stock engine mounts? we need more info.
