P0420 and Cyl 3 misfire

I have a 2000 Toyota Corolla. I've had a check engine light on for roughly about a year and I still have no idea what the problem is. Here's my story. I hooked in an OBD II and I received a P0420 code. Having done my research for this problem I read that the O2 sensors may be to balme. The vehicle at the time had over 150,000 miles on it and I though, "maybe it's time to change them." So I did and nothing cleared. I recently re tested the car and found that cyl #3 was misfiring. I changed the spark plugs and cleared the codes. The car runs great and no lights returned... Until this morning. I checked the car again and it gave me P0420 as a code and under pending codes it gave me a #3 cyl misfire.

Since I changed the spark plugs I'm thinking of changing the coil packs from cyl 3 to 4 and see if 4 comes up as misfiring. This way maybe I can find out if the coil pack is not working. As for the other code, I keep reading that the Cat Conv may need to be replaced. Can anyone please give me any info on this problem before I have to bust out the disc grinder and welder? I thank you in advance for your help.
