Passenger side mount replaced, now major vibration
My passenger side mount was worn out. Once removed I was able to move the mount by hand, so it was pretty loose. I installed a new mount from Advanced Auto. After the install I now have a major vibration that I never had before. You can actually here the frame buzz on that side on the outside with the car in park. Driving through first and second gear you can really hear it in the interior.
The motor appears to be pretty solid when looking under the hood. I do not see much movement from any of the other mounts. Any ideas as to what the issue could be?
In drive with the E brake on I can see the radiator shaking. If I reach down and grab the front mount it shakes my arm pretty good. Could it be that firming up the passenger side now allows the front mount to cause vibration?
Were you trying to fix other vibration issues by replacing the mount? If replacing the mount made it worse, I wonder if you put the original back if it smoothens out your idle.
The new one should be much firmer than a 9 year old mount, but unless your bolts are loose I wouldn't think you'd get more vibration from it.
On my 99, the front lower mount (underneath the radiator) was the one most in need of replacement.

I do have some vibration, that and the fact that I noticed the mount was pretty worn out were my reasons for replacing it. I throttled the engine while watching the motor and can see it flex pretty good due to the other two mounts being worn. I was thinking of trying the front lower mount next to see if that would help. For now I put the old mount back in and it is much smoother.
How hard was it to replace that front lower mount?
The front lower is pretty easy, assuming you hold the engine up with a jack and block of wood. Just remove the two plastic engine splash guards and then there's three bolts to remove. There was a bit of shimmying to get the old mount out and the new one in, as the radiator fan comes almost right up to it.
The rear lower was a pain in the arse, as you have to drop the frame crossmembers, which are torqued down to 150+ pounds. After doing all that work, my mount was definitely worn, but not nearly as bad as the front lower.
Well, the front rear was a royal PITA! The bolt was very rusted. Took a lot to break it free, even my breaker bar was bending. Then it broke free but you know how the sleeve runs through the rubber? Well that started turning. The sleeve was rusted right to the bold. I tried vise grips with no luck. Six cutting wheels later I was able to cut through the bolt and get it removed.
The car is somewhat smoother now with the front mount replaced. I then tried installing the passenger mount again. The buzzing is still there. Not as bad but it is definitely still there. It is still bad enough that I had to install the old one again. It is very noisy. You can see the antenna shake a lot just sitting in idle. The mount is very stiff. I did notice the new front mount was much softer. Could these aftermarket mounts just not be as good for the passenger side?
I have read posts here and at Corolland where people were having trouble with after market mounts.
Some doing what you describe, buzzing, vibration.
The mounts do not
fit right, and actually let engine related parts touch the car body( causes vibration /noises).
When they bought Toyota mounts and compared them, there were slight differences, enough to cause problems.
Also you can have one mount so bad/worn that it will effect the way all the others fit. Have you replaced / checked you rear mount?
I have not replaced the rear mount. I watched the rear while giving it gas and the flex was minimal. Although with the worn passenger mount I can see decent vibration on the arm that comes to the mount from the motor. Maybe a worn rear mount would cause this? Would hate to spend the big bucks for the Toyota mount to find it was not an issue with the aftermarket mount though...
I am rebuilding my engine ,so while it is out, I am replacing all the mounts.
After reading those posts, I bought toyota parts.
Even with the engine out, the rear mount is a pain. None of my mounts except the right side looked that bad, but they were all sagging and when they sag the engine does not sit right anymore.
Toyota prices are high ,but there a huge difference in quality. I have tried different aftermarket parts on my corolla and most of them were chinese junk. I took them back , and bought toyota parts. Its not worth doing things twice.
A rough idle can worsen the vibration problems too.
