Keyless entry 2001 corolla

I bought a used 2001 corolla which came with a fob. The PO said it came with keyless entry which was removed as he did not order it. It only took them 20 minutes to take it out when he went to pick it up. The alarm still arms but the electric locks do not activate using the fob. Just wondering if anyone out there would know what they disconnected as it all appears to be there.

Which alarm system is in the car - the Toyota OEM one (VIP system) or aftermarket? Who removed the keyless system, the dealership?

Did they give you the correct set of keys (keyless entry and alarm key fobs look the same but are programmed differently)?

Did you bring this to the attention of the selling party? Possible they disconnected something by accident or worse, shorted something out?

The fob is a three button fob with the lock and unlock plus a option button. It does not have the Toyota emblem on it. It does arm the alarm so that portion still works. He said they disconnected or reprogrammed the keyless entry out of it as he did not order it when he bought the car. He said it took them about 30 minutes to do what ever they did to take out the keyless entry. I understand that there were two types of keyless entry systems one that was put in at the factory and one that was put in at the entry port. Has to be something fairly easy to restore the keyless entry part of this.

Sounds like the fault lies with those guys at the dealership - something probably got disconnected in the process or the keys are not compatible with the system.

Might be a good idea to see which alarm "brain" is connected to the car. Generally they hide the box in either kickpanel area (driver's or passenger's side) or up under the dash. Once you get that info, should be able to look up the wiring pinouts for the alarm, trace back the wiring to see if they run to the door lock solenoids.

I'm not faulting the dealership guys as the PO said he did not order the car with alarm and keyless entry so some how the dealership took it disconnected it in about 20 to 30 minutes. This is why I thought it might be something simple. I will take a look at the kick panel and see how hard it is to get that off. Think you could be right that they may have sniped a wire if they did it that fast. Will keep everyone updated to what I find.

It sounds odd to me that the alarm and keyless entry would be seperate. pull off the lower dash panel and look for a blue/black and green/white wire in a white plug to the right of the fuse box. these are the factory lock wires and the most typical place to tap into for a keyless entry system. see if you can trace these back to something.
most likely it is just going to be easier to get a new aftermarket system

off topic, How would I find out if my 2000 corolla has keyless entry? I was not given a fob for it, but I think there might be a factory keyless entry in the car, i just need to buy a fob and program it.

I know in the mustangs the unit is in the trunk, however, i don't see one in my Corolla.
