Angry Hole in Gas tank!

Hey All,

My fiancee's 8th Gen Corolla has had the smell of gas for a long time. Apparently her father paid a mechanic $80 to for somebody who said her gas tank filler clamp was loose and he tightened it. So Im still smelling gas and I get under the car to check and there is another small nipple next to the filler that is rusted I touch it and it literally is so brittle it breaks in my hand.

This area is accessible by hand. It is also a part of the fuel tank that does NOT usually come in contact with debris.

OK so at the moment there is no real way to fix the car (for me) because I really dont have lots of access time to the car.

Is there some sort of epoxy that will "seal" the deal? I know the proper way would be replacement or welding. But both require lots of time which I dont have atm.

TIA

If the seal holds it would be temporary at best. It is best to replace the tank or the part, if it can be replaced alone ASAP. Driving the car with a fuel smell or it leaking is very dangerous.

Agreed. Get a new tank. Sure, it's expensive but your fiancee's life is worth a lot more.
