Question Broken key in door

Well my wife broke the key in the drivers side door. fortunately it still works if you use a whole key, but i would like to fix this. Anyone know of the best way to do so. the key is broken about halfway down aprox 1 inch. thanks

If you are lucky, might be able to fish it out with mini-jeweler's screwdriver.

I've used a straighten fishing hook in the past to extract a broken key - thin enough to fit between the pins and the key blank, and the barb on the end was just perfect to grab onto the soft metal of the key.

Otherwise, you'll have to pull the lock cylinder out and tap the old key out. Not sure if they still have a little hole in the back of the lock cylinder to push a broken blank out.

thanks for the help fish. i tried fishing it out with a hook and tweezers. the issue is the little flap that closes the entrance to the lock. i cant get that pushed back and have enough room to take out the key. is anyone aware if these door locks have a small hole in the back to tap out the key fragment? oh btw its a 2001.
