General 1998 Toyota corolla milage and problems

My neighbor is selling a 1998 Toyota Corolla 4 door Auto. It has 180,000 miles on it. He is asking $1200 Body is in pretty decent condition nothing major. Both airbags have been deployed from when he hydroplaned into an embankment. Also the Driver side window needs a motor.

I have not drove it yet, probably tom but i was hoping someone could let me know if this is a fair price and if its not a waste of time with the bad airbags. i read that around 180000 the water pump usually goes are there anyother problems like this ..

thanks for your time and help

Currently i drive a 1997 toyota camry, leaks oil power stearing starting to act up so im gonna sell this and buy something cheap for winter. i live in ohio

I would firstly check for oil consumption. This is hard to do when you dont own the car but is pretty necessary as these engines are known to burn oil if it was not babied.

Expect some of the usual stuff like door handles breaking, timing chain O ring leaking, exhaust doughnut blown out, etc.

If you look at the usual stuff like trans fluid, oil, coolant, belt, noises, pulling while driving, etc, these things can tell you alot of info. If everything checks out, hopefully someone else can help you with the value.

the the OP: the airbags being deployed are a big no no for that car so my suggestion to is fix up your camry and rock out. those camry's are way better then these cars.

Thanks for the input, I figured it wouldnt be a smart move, i dont have alot of time to work on the vehicle or want to deal with continous problems.

As far as fixing my 1997 toyota Camry 165,000 miles. Is there a common oil leak as far as that car goes and is there a common power steering problem that i can look into first?? I recently did the timing belt about 155000 miles but i didnt replace the seal on the motor because we didnt see any fluid coming from it and the guy helping me didnt have the tool and was getting impatient.

Not to my knowledge but search around the gen 3&4 camry area and you might find an answer

If it uses a Timing belt, the oil, crankshaft and camshafts seals can leak oil.
