CEL problem...need to pass emissions..

So my car never threw a CEL for the longest time but I new I had a leak in the header/donut gasket area. After I fixed the donut gasket....the CEL came on and it indicated it was the cat/oxygen sensor. I don't remember the code exactly right now but i'll edit this thread once i find the paper.

My question: By getting a scanner and turning it off....would i be able to pass emissions? Or do i need to fix the problem permanently before I could pass?

Thanks guys!

clearing codes is not gonna help. is it a P0420 (cat) or a P0135 (i think thats it) for oxygen sensor B1S1?

If you have not fixed the issue, the system will show a pending code and most emissions tests will fail you for that. However... It's technically possible that your exhaust leak fix solved the problem and the light could be reset and not come back on. Worth a shot!

well you guys.... I passed my emissions test!!!

The code was a P0420 (Catalytic Converter) and I used a OBDII scanner to turn off the code. Before I went in for my test i rescanned my car for any codes and It didn't show any so I took the chance and went in the same day for my smog test. Luckily enough I passed so i saved myself the trouble and $$$ of not changing any o2 sensors and whatnot
