Canada Corolla 98 - aftermarket wheel sizing.

I bough a nice set of wheels and winter tires second hand. Here is my dilema:

The tire size matches OEM, so it's not an issue at all, but the rims size is a bit different from oem.
The rims are 14x5.5 with lug pattern 4x100 [mm], but the hub bore is 57.1 [mm] instead of 54.06 [mm].
Is this a serious problem? I can't find the hub-centric rings that would make these rims fit, i.e. nobody makes 57.1 -> 54.06 fitting rings.

Can I just use this wheel set as is without hub-centric rings?

as long as its lugcentric you'll be ok.

How do I find out if they are lug- or hub-centric?

Hubcentric would be better from a safety point of view. But as long as the wheel is lugcentric - as Bitter mentioned, you "should" OK - assuming the center bore is not too small.

Lugcentric - just look at the lug seats and see if they have a conical taper to the seat. Example pic here:

If they are not conical, but ball or flat seated, then it may be a deal breaker. No matter how tight you make those lugs, there is a chance the wheel will rotate on you. That could cause all sorts of headaches - from broken studs, to wheel separation.

As for the rings, might have to get those custom made. A couple of shops might be able to turn down some aluminum stock for a modest fee on their lathe or CNC machine. Lot of Trade Universities and high schools trade classes can do this for free - just for experience. Can't hurt to ask.
