power windows

After rolling down the dr side window I tried to roll it up and the window would not go all the way up.Then after a little while the window would work perfectly. Its intermittent problem so do you think its the switch? Or maybe motor? Seems like since the window goes up and down that the motor gets power and seeems to work. Is there a way to test the switch What do you think?

Definitely check out the switch, make sure it is making contact when it should be. Verify that you get good voltage to the motor as well.

More than likely, you probably have some binding in the window regulator that is causing the motor to work harder than usual. Might be a simple case of lubricating the regulator.

If your windows are tinted, make sure the tint is not getting jammed inside the window tracks. Sometimes that can come loose or the adhesive can get pulled out and gum up the tracks.

I am assuming I must take off dr panel. What do i look for as far as the regulator. and what do I use to lube the regulator. the switch i will have to go junk yard shopping to find one. I have checked prices for these switches and they can be expensive.

Yes, you'll have to pull the door panel off to check on the regulator and the switch. There is also an excess panel under there with some screws that you'll likely have to pull off to get a good view.

If you carefully peel back the vapor barrier and not tear it, you can reuse the plastic barrier.

For lube, use a good quality multipurpose (MP) grease. There are 5 points you want to check and hit - two are on the bottom rail, one on the center pivot point, one on the upper rail, and the "gears/teeth" all the way at the top.

Switch at the junkyard would be the best bet - I would test the one you have first, as the switch could be fine - could be a wiring issue instead. No sense replacing something that is working just fine.
