Driver's Side Door Lock - No Power

Hey guys, this place has been great for a lot of my issues, so huge thanks to all the people who've put time into this site. Now I've spent the past couple of hours combing through the site for various issues for my 2002 Corolla, and I still can't find a specific answer to one of the problems I'm having.

My driver's side door tab won't lock or unlock when I hit the power lock button. It doesn't move at all. It also does nothing when I put the key in the passenger door and lock the entire car where the other 3 doors all either lock or unlock.

It will move and lock or unlock when I put the key in the driver's door, and lock or unlock when I manually push down or pull up the tab.

I found a thread here: Driverside door lock (manual) is not workin in my corolla 1999 VE that sounds like it could be the same problem, but there wasn't enough there to really diagnose what could be the issue. Also, looking through the FAQ and through this thread: DIY: How to replace a broken outside door handle., it's hard to tell what could be causing it. It sounds like it's obviously power-related, but I'm not a car guy. Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

Check out the door lock motor. You need to pull the door panel off and remove the lock assembly. You probably would need to buy a replacement from a junkyard, as the internal motor burns out on many Toyota models after 5+ years.

It's a couple hours work to replace the lock assembly, or you can just go with the manual locking route as you currently are.

When you say the door lock motor, does that power the windows as well?

Just curious, if I need to buy 2 motors(to replace the window motor at some point), or if this motor does both...

They are separate. There is a window motor on the side of the door below the inside door handle, and a lock motor near the latch below the outside door handle.

If you are handy with tools and have a few hours time, but want to save a few dollars, you can reuse your lock mechanism and just replace the lock motor, which costs less than $10. It takes a couple of hours of time because you need to crack open the plastic motor case and press out the old shaft. There's a thread here which explains a lot of the process: http://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-c...placement.html

The motor you need is a Mabuchi FC280PC, which could be bought on Ebay.

Otherwise, I'd recommend going to a junkyard to get the whole lock mechanism from another Corolla for probably $50 or so.

Also, since you are asking about both motors, are they both not working? If so, you might have an electrical connector loose. Do you hear at least hear a noise from the lock/motor when you try to actuate them, but it sounds like the motor just isn't powerful enough?

My passenger side window is not working properly. Well it works for awhile and then it pretty much slowly dies. You let it sit awhile and then it gets a little more juice. I found the issue on here and they said a new window motor was needed.

Now, I'm pretty sure my drivers side window has done this as well, albeit a lot less regularly than the passenger side, so I thought it'd be best to replace both while the door panel was taken apart. Which is why I'm trying to figure out what's needed, I found this on Ebay as a part that does both: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-1...item5d28bd42bb and was wondering if I needed a single motor, or two?

Yep, that sounds like the window motor is dead.

Right, it is two separate motors for the lock and window mechanisms. FYI, plan on having a half-day available to tear into the door because it's tight access inside there.
