If you are looking to go to a 15" - then a 15x7 wheel (4-100 bolt pattern, 35-40mm offset) should do the trick. Tires - want to stick with a 195/55-15 tire. You can go a little wider, 205/50-15 - but that will through off you speedo a bit (vehicle speed is lower than indicated, about a 1MPH difference at 60MPH).

Sumitomo HTR A/S PO1 should be a decent tire. Ran Sumitomo's before, little on the "soft" side compared to other tires in its class, so handling may be a little less sharp, but traction is well rated and better than others. Seems to be a fairly new tire, so decent reviews may take some time to filter in, for the time being they seem pretty positive.

Thanks for the tips on tires and rims. Now I know what to ask for xmas from my wife. I think I will call tire rack and bend their ear about those Sumitomo tires.

Thanks
Jerry

I am still looking for a 15 rim that will fit on my 2000 corolla. Are there any stock wheels like from honda, mazda etc that will fit. Also what dimesion should I look for. I have read I should look for 4x 100. is this a size. Also what width do I look for. I dont want to make any modifications on my sons car.

This is what you should be looking for, already mentioned above in my earlier post

15x7 wheel (4-100 bolt pattern, 35-40mm offset)

- 15" wheel, 7" width maximum
- 4x100 is the bolt pattern, it means 4 lugs, 100mm bolt circle
- 35-40mm offset is the distance between the mounting hub and the centerline of the wheel. Most FWD vehicles will use a positive offset, most RWD vehicles will use a negative offset.

As long as you look for a FWD car with 15" wheels and 4x100 bolt pattern, there is a good chance that it will fit the Corolla. Otherwise, I'd just hit up Tirerack or similar and get new wheels and tires. If you get a package, they will mount the tires and balance the wheels for you - just bolt on and go. I've done this with my other vehicles and have never been dissatisfied with their work.
