Door Speaker Removal

I'm a novice at replacing speakers. I bought 2 pairs of Pioneer 6.5 inch speakers to replace the door speakers as well as the rear deck speakers on my 98 Corolla. I've removed both my driver and passenger door panels and drilled the rivets securing the speaker so I'm ready to disconnect the speakers.

How do I disconnect the door speaker? There's only a red and a black wire connected directly to the speaker and I'm not sure if they're supposed to be cut or something. I bought wiring adapters from Crutchfield; where do those come in? They don't look like they go anywhere.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Since you already have the door speakers chiseled off (or drilled off, but I find chiseling easier), all you have to do it cut the wires as close to the positive and negative terminal as possible.

You pretty much have to do this because they're soldered onto the terminals, but you don't want to cut off too much wire because there's not a lot to work with in the first place.

FYI, when you're doing the install, it's MUCH easier to just use a dremel and customize the bracket already in the corolla, and then use some sheet metal screws to screw the bracket back into place when you're done. This provides you with a good spacer already too.

and what kind of wiring adapters did you purchase? I don't see how you would need any for this setup...

I got these wiring harnesses from Crutchfield: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1207104...s.html?tp=1025

Do I need speaker adapter brackets? I've read some places list the front speakers as 5.25" and others as 6.5".

Those are the harnesses that connect to the connector directly under the panel for your side mirror. If you peel back the weather shielding sheet there is a little connector that is for your speakers, and this fits in there. In my opinion, you really don't need it, and I would just suggest cutting the wire at the speaker.

As for an adapter, yes, you might want to get one. I actually just dremel'd the old adapter and took off the magnet, drilled into that, and placed my speaker in there. I then just used some sheet metal screws instead of rivets, because personally, I have no clue how to do riveting. lol.

But yes, 6.5's fit, I just did mine yesterday. 5.25's also fit, but I would recommend just getting some 6.5's.
