98 nair bag lamp on constantly, can anyone help?

My 98 has had the airbag lamp on for at least a year already. Personally I never really cared as it still runs just fine. Here's the issue, my state as of 2011 will not pass cars thru state inspection with the light on.

I found one post here on this issue but my car does not have SIDEBAGS! Lets face it, if I run it to the dealer to cost will most likely exceed the value of the car!!

Where do I start? How do I draw codes, my code reader says nothing about this. Surely someone's been down this road before. Any help much appriciated! And a HAPPY NEW YEAR to all.

If the airbag light is on all the time, then obviously there is something wrong with the bag or seat belt system. That's a safety issue and I, for one, wouldn't be driving the car until I get it fixed.

Unless your life is worth less than the cost of a car repair, you should get it fixed. You are taking a chance with yourself and your passengers every time you drive.

No how too's??? Surely someone here's been down this road. I checked the connectors at the belts yesterday (1 degree windchill yay!) Everything looked ok(?) If I can get some codes to blink from the diagnostic connecter under the hood, can anyone here interpret them?

those will not be OBD codes, they are airbag system codes and you'll have to goto the dealer.
