Unhappy Pioneer MVH-P8200 head unit in '98 Corolla?

First post on the forums.

I've had some experience with installing head units in my Corolla (gone through three different ones so far). My Pioneer MVH-P8200 just arrived and it appears I did not look at the dimensions correctly while ordering it. It has a wide trim that prevents it from fitting into the panel (the big plastic one that holds the center vents and clock). I already checked and the trim is by no means removable.

Barring some kind of miracle, I won't be able to fit it in there without physically cutting more space in the panel, and I don't have the tools for that. So my question is: did Toyota ever make an alternate panel by chance? One with more space? And if so, does anyone know where I could order one? I'd like to replace it as I'm almost positive my new head unit is non-returnable.

Any help is appreciated.

As for another panel for that generation/market of Corolla - No. Overseas Toyotas had their headunits in a "pod" that sits on the dashboard, but their dashes are also different than ours.

I ran into a similar issue with my 2002 - I just cut the existing headunit trim ring to fit in the space in the center finish panel. That would look a little off in the headunit you have there. So you'll have to trim the center finish panel itself. Use a file, instead of a dremel to avoid the possibility of removing too much material by accident. Then use a dremel and buff ball to "shine" up the cut edges.

A metra 99-3413 should work if you want to install it where the pocket/cup holder is. I think this is how it is installed in the prizm.
