Crack in lower block, can it be changed?

I have to put a new motor in a 2001 corolla and the replacement engine is from a 2007 corolla. However, the lower right bolt hole for the a/c compressor is split. I havn't removed the oil pan to inspect the inside yet but it appears that the lower part of the case can be swapped from my old engine. Anyone done this and how involved it it? Also, what type of sealer is used around it?

Yes, it does come off the block. it is the lower bearing girdle. this is also what holds the crank in the engine. so it is quite involved to swap it out. it is doable. while you have it apart, i would take the opportunity to replace the main and rod bearings. oem bearings are fine, but i prefer the acl duraglides. the stock bearing is mostly made of aluminum. the duraglides are a tri metal mix and provide much longer service life in my opinion.

Thanks! Thats how I "saw" it being made after thinking about it.

Do you know the torque specs on those bolts or know where I can find an online manual?

i dont have the factory torque specs, as my engine rebuild is not reusing factory bolts... i <3 arp, but here is a site that has all the info you could need. it has a factory service manual. downside, you have to buy a two day pass for it for 15 bucks. meh.
