1 mistake - Countless problems
First time poster here. A thorough searching of the forum came up with some partially similar problems, but nothing that lead me to any course of action. I'm hoping to get some ideas.
The Car:
2001 Corolla ATM (base model - no power anything)
The Problem(s):
Clock, Turn Signals, Radio, Brake Lights, Wipers, AC Fan, Shift-Lock, Dash indicators are all not working.
What Works:
Headlights, Dome lights, Door open indicator, Hazard lights (flashers)
The Story:
The car wouldn't start over the weekend, but a jump start did the trick. The battery was old so I replaced it. The problem is AutoZone sold me the wrong battery and the polarity was switched. I didn't actually realize this until I already had the battery hooked up and tried to start the car. Went back to AutoZone and got the right battery, re-installed, and still nothing.
I started pulling fuses at this point and found that a fuse for the ignition was blown, and a fuse for the fuel injection was blown. Replaced both and the car started right up. However I was unable to shift out of park. Popping the cap off the Shift-Lock release and pressing it let me shift out of park and drive the car. It was then I realized I that a lot of things were still wrong. I've checked every fuse I can visually checked, and swapped anything that relates to the problem items above. I'm having trouble finding any information about other fuses or relays that I might try to replace.
I saw this post in the Solara forums:
I have an 01 Solara. I just replaced the alternator. While I was replacing it I did short out the terminal lead so I don't know if this is what caused my problem. The problem is that I can't get it out of park. Almost all of the electronics don't work. No power windows, radio, power locks, turn signals, brake lights. I do have head lights and the warning beep works.
I have dont the normal checks. The brake switch is ok, the fuses seem to be good. I haven't checked every fuse. My guess is it is something that controls everything. But I don't know what that is or how to test for it.
And this answer:
I found the problem. The 100amp fuse was blown.
Does anyone know if there is something similar in the Corolla that I can check?
Thanks to anyone who reads through all of this!
