hey guys I was just wondering what would be the best swap for my 98 corolla... I'm looking for something that fits but gives it the best performance it can get
Thanks bud but bcuz I have the ECU is impossible to crack, I think I am staying away frm tht 1 lol I was considering trying to fit a 2JZ-GTE VVT-i into my Corolla, what do ya guys think?

no... just no. normally im all for crazy swaps, but this is just retarded. if your corolla was an AE86 then yes, do it. but you have a fwd zze110 like the rest of us 8th gen-er's. a 2zz-ge, as mentioned above, will be as close to a drop in as possible. not to mention the 2zz weighs close to the 1zz so it wont throw off weight balance. a 2jz and trans set are close to 700lbs by them selfs. well over double what a 1zz/2zz engine trans combo would be. second is price. the total cost for a 2zz swap is not too bad. 3000-3500 for the motor set and maybe 500-600 for someone to do the wiring for you, if your not up to it. 2zz swap it and be done. you will love lift and the c60 6spd gearbox. trust me.
I will definitly look into tht but just a thought, what if I did a weight reduction w/ the 2Jz and as for money, well I have money lets just put it tht way, my goal is to have the fastest tuner in Miami thats not a freaking honda -____-
you are still not getting it, our little 8th gen corollas are Front wheel drive. which means no trans tunnel, rear axle or anything. stock they weigh about 2400-2500 depending on trim. a 2jz engine and trans, not including rear end, driveshaft and all the rest of the shit you would need to install, weights just under a 1/3 of the total vehicle weight. plus there is not enough room to mount the engine in the bay. its too long for a typical rwd engine layout. stop thinking 2jz.
since you claim money is no option, 3sgte and swap it to awd. complete celica gt 4 drivetrain. this would be easier to swap than a 2jz would. the down side is it still kills weight ballance but its not as bad as a fwd 3sgte would be.
if you really are set on a 2jz, buy a rwd corolla or some other rwd car and swap it. it will not work in an 8th gen corolla without a SHIT TON of money invested into it.
no. the trans tunnel is the issue with converting a fwd car to rwd. the tunnel is made for exhaust pipes on fwd cars and to house a large (think 12-18in diameter) trans and a driveshaft. now awd would be easier since the trans is closer to a fwd trans, but with a transfer case that sends power to a driveshaft that would travel down the tunnel. the trans and engine mount in the engine bay like a normal fwd car.
heres an example
also note, none of these are to actual size. just a representation.
the form of awd subaru uses is on the left, the style like the celica gt 4 or mitsu evo is in the middle and on the right is a setup like the nissan skyline (r32-34) uses. the slylines were more towards a RWD setup because they made non AWD / RWD only versions, along with 4 door non turbo sedans.
our corolla drivetrain resembles the middle pic the closest. just we are fwd only. no transfer case, driveshaft or rear end at all. but it would be easier to fab those up than remake the whole floor of the interior cabin just for a RWD trans tunnel.
so we are pretty much just taking the engine and turning it w/ the trans going in for the awd, kool I kinda get it now thanks 4 the pic, it really helped
umm... no. did you not read my post? subaru uses that style, toyota uses a fwd based awd. meaning the trans is like the current trans plus a transfer case.
oh ok I think I get it now hehe I am not exactly car savvy, I am now starting to try to get into it. So all I pretty much need to do is add a transfer case?
*sigh* I am tired of hearing tht lol I have a Lexus is250 but my toyota is my project car, like I said my goal is to have the fastest tuner in Miami thats not a freaking Honda bcuz I am honestly fed up w/ every1 having a Honda and since I am not exactly very car smart I am hear trying to find out the best thing to do >.>
