Hi, I am new to the Forums here at Toyota Nation. I have recently taken an interest in fixing my car myself. However I am not a handy man by any stretch of the mind. I went from not knowing how to change my headlight bulb (which i was pulled over for like 10 times) to: replacing the socket and bulbs., installing (Pre-wired) fog lights, rotating tires, and changing the breaks. in a little less than two months. I am feeling accomplished
Anyways to get back on topic. My brother said the best upgrade to look into for my corolla now is an Air Intake System. I am due to change the filter anyways. I have been reading around the forums and saw that cold-air intake systems > ram intake systems. What are your opinions on this. Should I try to replace the whole system or look for an after-market filter?
Also what would be the difficulty in replacing the entire system? I just ordered the Haynes Manual for my 2001 Corolla.
i have installed a weapon-r short ram intake on an 01 corolla and i love it. the car pulls harder, shifts later and has more torque. i got it from ebay for $107
You do know a lot of brands, even reputable brands, advertise the amount of gain you COULD get IF you TUNED your engine. They don't advertise the amount of direct bolt on performance, which is next to nothing to be honest. You get maybe 3hp out of an intake, 10hp if you tune the a/f ratio correctly.
So basically, buying something that only comes with a dyno sheet is just as retarded as buying something without it. As you will see the same performance regardless.
