To get my exhaust re-done? Provided that i have a header, cat, and the muffler just needs a new hangar welded on. I must've hit a bump weird and muffler hangar broke off and dragged the exhaust pipe after my cat on the road for about mile till I could pull over. So basically I'd just need to get a cat back, without the muffler. The only thing salvageable was the muffler and it had some scuffs. What price point am I looking at?
edit: my cat back exhaust was done free of charge to me so I have no idea how much they run on a corolla...i was running 2" into a thermal r&d axel back
stainless or mild steel? if its stainless, it could cost a pretty penny, but mild steel i dont see costing more than 150.
my question is, why the rinky dink 2in? stock is just right under 2in and all the performance gains of an exhaust system come from the added ability to flow. was it to keep it quiet? oe replacement?
I got it done as an oe replacement, since I worked at the Toyota dealership for a few years before the franchise sold it. There was some actual nice performance gains over the stock one(but granted my stock one at the time was old). I might go a bit bigger...up to 2.25 but I don't need to go much larger than that...wouldn't I actually see a reduction in performance after that anyway on my tiny little n/a 1.8?
As far as material....Stainless basically just won't rust right? Thats what happened on mine it looks like...rust got the best of where the axel back connects to the mid pipe? I guess is what that would be considered.
past 2.5 will not net any gains. with 2.5 i could be a bit louder, but as long as you have a good muffler and resonator as well as a cat, i dont see that being a problem.
as for stainless, yes it will not rust. but if you go with a thin wall stainless you can even reduce weight from your car. stainless is much stronger than the mild steel most use, even with a very thin wall its still close to the strength if not stronger still than the oe steel / thickness. i love stainless too. it's just soo much nicer.
my problem with taking it to exhaust shops is that the people who work at the good ones are fuckin snoody as hell, and the junk ones are...junk. Midas does exhaust work yeah? lol
got any friends with welders? i can usually fab up a cat back exhaust in a few hours depending on how simple or complex the bends need to be. its not terribly hard, just need to be proficient with welding and making a straight cut. the rest is easy. i like to use the old exhaust as a "map" for the new one. i will take the old off and reassemble it in my basement, then build the new one next to it. has worked well in the past.
if that is not a possible solution, then i would suggest dealing with some snoody people.
nah, no one here is a welder, and my exhaust is all welded together too...no clamps of anything. Well it was welded together. Yeah there is this place here that has a 2week waiting period to get in
damn. that sucks. any kind of local car forum you might be able to solicit some welding from someone? other wise i dont know what to say. if you were in my area, i would hook you up, but your half way across the us.
if i were you, i would also opt for a flange some where in the system. it makes it easier if you ever need to repair or replace it. i like v band clamps, but then again my tastes are not for everyone.

I did have some clamps on the flex pipe from my header, but they I just got it welded to the cat when I had the cat put in...I don't mind it welded in there, its just as easy to cut and re-weld at the shop as to clamp/unclamp. I actually have no idea if there are colorado race forums...
I think your Thermal R&D is cooked j/k. What is it, 5 years old now.
i had no idea you were still lurkin around these boards =D. The thermal r&d is fine actually, where it broke off was about 2-3 inches upstream from where the muffler bolted on.
