Unhappy MAF / TPS question?

so i washed my engine today, but new pcv/vacumm lines, replaced the pcv, cleaned the maf with maf cleaner, bolted everything back up, and all of sudden there's a very loud "click" / "pop" noise coming from the MAF? (like when the throttle opens, closes).

in Park and Neutral, the engine idles fine. when I shift to Drive or Reverse, the engine begins shaking horribly - like its not getting enough air. it struggles to accelerate.

anyone have any tips/suggestions of what this might be?

the TPS maybe?

any advice is greatly appreciated.

thanks,

-dave

Was all remaining traces of the MAF cleaner dried/blown off before installing? And did the click/pop occur when starting up or just after? I'm thinking there was some pooled inside the venturi of the sensor, and it ignited, since the working parts of the MAF sensor is actually a heating element. Could also just have been a backfire - see below.

Also, if you washed the engine (with water, I assume?), pull the plug wires or coil packs, (not sure of your year) and get all the water out around the plugs and up inside the boots/coils. A blow gun works great if you have compressed air, a rag and long skinny screwdriver will help you soak it up if you don't have air.

Yes, i got a flashing "intermittent" check engine light. I decided to replace the plugs/wires since they were pretty old anyways. I covered up the MAF so no water got into it. turned out to be a misfire (but the popping noise was heard in the MAF??)

a replacement of new wires, NGK plugs (2 prong) did the trick.

thanks for the advice and quick response fellas! highly appreciated!
