Stock Rims Painted Black

What ya' think? I'll be the first one to admit I'm a noob with cars. lol. I think they came out ok

Looks OK - depending if you were going for that satin finish or not.

How long it will last is another matter. How much prep work did you do to the original finish (OEM is clear coated)? Did you clear coat the new finish? What kind of paint did you get?

I did not do that much prep work. I used some wheel cleaner. Brushed the dirt off with a toothbrush. there were already some scratches on the stock rims. So I used a metal brush with a power drill. sanded down edges with 100 grit sandpaper. Then I wiped them down with paint thinner. 1 coat of rustoleum primer. I did 2 coats of black dupi color wheel paint. and 3 clear coats of dupi color wheel paint. I was not sure how they were going to come out. I did not want a flat black so I was happy they do have some shine to them.

you just lowered the market value of those rims...

an original untouched OEM magwheels always price higher than aftermarkets...

Yes i considered that. But I realized that I will be keepin this car until it don't run no more. I might as welll have some fun with it (=

2 of the rims were scratched up anyways so.. yea.

That's actually more than some other owners when they painted their wheels - roughing up the edges with 100 grit and wiping it down with the paint thinner probably was enough for that paint to grab.

After the paint cures, make sure you hit them with some wax. A little will go a long way to prevent the brake dust from eating into the paint. Given the color - be tough to see the brake buildup, so you'd likely have to wash them often to protect the paint you just put on there.

BTW, great job on the wheels - as long as your happy about the outcome - no worries.

i did the same to mine and they have held up great, i did have problems with dupi color wheel paint chipping when driving on salted roads even with several clear coats. i sanded them back down and used dupi color engine enamel and it works fantastic haven't had a chip yet.
